Change to Default Handling Time options for Amazon Sellers in the US

As an Amazon seller, providing excellent service and meeting customer expectations is key to success. Amazon continually strives to enhance the shopping experience for customers, and one important aspect of this is ensuring accurate delivery dates. In a recent announcement, Amazon has introduced changes to the Default Handling Time for sellers to improve the delivery promise to customers. In this blog post, we will break down this announcement and guide you on how to adapt to these changes effectively.

Understanding the Default Handling Time Update

Amazon has recognized that the majority of orders received by sellers are processed within 1 business day from the time the order is received. However, many sellers have their Default Handling Time configured to 2 days, which can result in less appealing delivery dates for customers and potentially lead to lost sales.

To address this issue, Amazon has decided to deprecate the 2-day Default Handling Time, effectively moving all seller accounts to a 1-day Default Handling Time. This change is designed to set more accurate delivery dates, aligning with the efficient handling of orders.

Key Dates for the Change

The transition to the new Default Handling Time will occur between November 2 and November 6. During this period, sellers with a 2-day Default Handling Time will see their Default Handling Time change to 1 day.

For sellers who have historically taken more than 1 day to handle orders and have not specified a SKU-specific Handling Time, Amazon will automatically assign a 2-day SKU-specific Handling Time. This SKU-specific Handling Time will override the Default Handling Time for those products.

How to Set a SKU-Specific Handling Time

If you need to set a longer Handling Time for specific products, Amazon provides options to do this individually or in bulk. Here’s how you can set a SKU-specific Handling Time:

  1. Manage Inventory Page: You can set a SKU-specific Handling Time on the Manage Inventory page. This allows you to adjust Handling Time for each product individually. Simply locate the product in your inventory and adjust the Handling Time as needed.
  2. Inventory Loader: If you need to make changes to Handling Time for multiple SKUs, the Inventory Loader tool is a convenient way to do so in bulk. This tool allows you to upload a file with the necessary updates, including SKU-specific Handling Time adjustments.
  3. Price and Quantity File: Similar to the Inventory Loader, the Price and Quantity file allows you to modify Handling Time for multiple SKUs by uploading a file with the required changes.
  4. Listing Loader: The Listing Loader tool offers another option for bulk changes to SKU-specific Handling Time. It allows you to upload a file with updates, ensuring that your products reflect the accurate handling time.

To gain a deeper understanding of how to implement these changes effectively, Amazon provides detailed resources and guidance. You can learn more about these tools and processes by visiting the relevant Amazon Seller Central pages.

As an Amazon seller, adapting to changes in the platform’s policies and procedures is essential for maintaining a competitive edge and satisfying customer expectations. The transition to a 1-day Default Handling Time is a step taken by Amazon to enhance the customer experience and ensure more accurate delivery promises.

We encourage sellers to review their Default Handling Time settings and make any necessary adjustments to SKU-specific Handling Times, particularly if your products historically require more than 1 day for handling. By proactively addressing these changes, you can continue to provide an exceptional shopping experience for your customers and maintain a successful presence on Amazon. Your flexibility and responsiveness to these updates will benefit your business and your customers in the long run.

New “At Risk” Account Health Status Warnings in Amazon Seller Central

As an Amazon seller, maintaining a healthy account status is crucial for the success of your business on the platform. Amazon continually updates and enhances the tools and features available to sellers to help them navigate their seller journey. One recent change that sellers may be aware of is the display of the “Account Health at Risk” status.

Previously, the “At Risk” Account Health status used to be displayed in a marketplace-specific rectangle which reflected that particular store’s state.

Now, Amazon Sellers will see a drop-down menu called “Account Health” displaying the number of “At Risk Stores”. This then expands to show more information, as pictured below:

At the same time, there is now an orange rectangle in the middle of the screen displaying the At Risk status in the specific store as well (below):

You will be automatically enrolled in EPR Pay on Behalf, unless you prove compliance by December 31, 2023

As Amazon sellers, staying compliant with various regulations and requirements is crucial for a successful and hassle-free selling experience. Recently, Amazon has announced changes related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance in Spain, which may impact sellers offering packaged goods. In this blog post, we will explain what EPR compliance entails and how Amazon is here to assist you through the Pay on Behalf service.

What is EPR Compliance?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a concept that places the responsibility for the management and recycling of packaging waste on the producers or manufacturers of the packaged goods. In Spain, Amazon is required to ensure that packaged goods offered for sale by sellers not established in Spain comply with EPR requirements.

Amazon’s Pay on Behalf Service

If you are a producer not established in Spain and sell on amazon.es, Amazon will automatically enroll you in the Pay on Behalf service for the period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. This service ensures that Amazon reports and pays eco-contributions on your behalf for your packaged goods sales on amazon.es. The collected amounts are then recovered from your seller account.

How Does Pay on Behalf Work?

EPR Pay on Behalf allows you to continue selling on amazon.es without worrying about EPR compliance. Under this service, Amazon will handle the reporting and payment of eco-contributions on your behalf. This means you can focus on your business while Amazon takes care of the regulatory aspects.

The process of using Pay on Behalf involves Amazon reporting and paying eco-contributions for your packaged goods sales on amazon.es in 2023 and beyond. All the terms and conditions are specified in the EPR Requirements policy for third-party sellers in Spain, which can be found on sellercentral.amazon.es.

Learn more on our Pay on Behalf page.

Service Costs

You might wonder about the costs associated with the Pay on Behalf service. Amazon will charge your seller account with a service fee and the eco-contribution fees that Amazon pays on your behalf. Detailed service fee information will be communicated before December 2023. To learn more about the service fees, visit the Pay on Behalf page on Amazon.

Opting Out of Pay on Behalf

If you prefer not to use the Pay on Behalf service, you have an option to submit a valid packaging registration number here by December 31, 2023. This ensures that you can manage your EPR compliance independently. For more information on how to submit a valid packaging registration number, you can refer to Amazon’s Help page.

In case you don’t have a valid packaging registration number, Amazon has designed the EPR Services on Amazon, a solution that helps sellers obtain a UIN (Unique Identification Number) and pay eco-contribution fees to PROs (Producer Responsibility Organizations) with the assistance of trusted service providers.
