Amazon introduces new options to report issues with customer returns and charge a restocking fee

Amazon has introduced a new feature that allows you to charge a restocking fee if you receive a return in a used, damaged, defective, or materially different condition. This means you now have more control over your returns process and can better protect your business.
Charging a restocking fee is a simple and straightforward process. Here’s how you can do it:
- Go to the “Orders” section in your Amazon Seller Central account.
- Click on “Manage returns” and select the specific order you want to process.
- Next, click on “Issue refund” for that order.
- On the “Refund orders” page, you’ll now see the option to “Charge restocking fee.” Click on it.
Now comes the interesting part! You get to grade the condition of the returned item. On the “Charge restocking fee” page, you’ll find a drop-down menu where you can select a description that best fits the condition of the returned item. Additionally, you can upload a photo to provide visual evidence and include more details in the comments text box.
This additional information plays a crucial role in confirming that the item wasn’t returned in its original condition. It also helps Amazon understand customer behavior and protects you and other sellers from potential returns issues in the future. By providing these details, you contribute to making the platform a fair and secure marketplace for everyone.
If you’re interested to learn more about issuing a partial refund, go to the “Issue a partial refund” section on the Amazon Seller Central website. There, you’ll find further guidance and instructions.
Remember, as an Amazon seller, it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest features and announcements. By doing so, you position yourself for success and can adapt to any changes in the marketplace swiftly.
