Following the launch of Playstation 5, which became sold out immediately, many e-commerce sellers sadly saw this as a great opportunity how to make money quickly and easily.
They purchased numerous units of the long-awaited devices in advance, only to attempt to resell them with a significant profit to desperate parents seeking the perfect Christmas present for their children.
E-commerce platforms such as eBay and Amazon are already receiving complaints from customers angered by price gouging related to Sony’s latest console.
If you don’t want to risk negative consequences to your Seller Account, I would strongly recommend you not to participate in this practice. If you already done so, resell any already purchased PS5 devices locally, rather than listing them online.
Apart from price gouging, some clever individuals decided to try their luck by misleadingly listing photos or empty boxes of Playstation 5:
Another example:
eBay issued a statement about this problem claiming it is actively removing listings from the site.
“We condemn these opportunistic sellers who are attempting to mislead other users,” eBay said in its statement.
“We are in the process of removing all listings for photos of PS5s from our marketplace and will be taking appropriate action against the sellers.”
The company’s statement does not include the “box only” listings, but it would seem to list an empty box in a deceptive manner should equally qualify for removal as “photo only” listings would.
