For several months, Amazon has been e-mailing their third party sellers asking them to update their “List Price”. This action will have severe consequences for any ASIN and you shouldn’t take it lightly.
The List Price is related to the Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy. Amazon wants every listing to have a set base price, which will determine whether your offer remains available or gets suppressed under Potential High Pricing Error or Potential Low Pricing Error.
Most detail pages across the Amazon platform don’t have any List Price, which means that there won’t be any Pricing Alerts triggered by the system once another seller comes and creates an offer priced higher or lower than you.
With a List Price, offers priced a little higher or lower than the entered amount will get suppressed.
So, the choice is in your hands and you can be the one who sets the acceptable price.
Once the List Price is saved, it is nearly impossible to change it.
Here you can view a photo of an example e-mail notice where Amazon is prompting sellers to update their List Price:

Add or update a List Price to your listings Dear Seller, Customers may find savings messaging helpful in identifying a good offer – for example, You Save: $29.99 (20%). To display savings messaging on Amazon, products need a reference price. Providing Amazon with a List Price is one way to help us display a reference price on products you sell. We are running continuous checks in our catalog data and have found some of your recent product offerings are either missing a List Price or the current value may be old or out of date. You can find the list on this link: LINK TO FILE If available, please add or update List Prices for these products through Seller Central. For bulk uploads please review how to create and upload an inventory file template. You can also learn more about reference prices on the Amazon Policy on Reference Prices and the Amazon Fair Pricing Policy. |
