What criteria determine who gets the BuyBox on Amazon?

The Buy Box is the box on a product detail page where customers can begin the purchasing process by adding items to their shopping carts. If several sellers offer the same product in “new” condition, they may be eligible to compete for the Buy Box for that product.

The BuyBox algorithm depends on multiple factors and there is no guarantee you will have it on any listing, even if you were the one who created it and there are no other sellers competing with you. 

Main factors include seller’s overall price + shipping, fulfillment method, handling time, Premium delivery options, returns rate and metrics.

FBA sellers may get the BuyBox with a higher price than you, if you are FBM.

Handling time over 5-6 days will cause you to lose the BuyBox against all other competing offers.

Sellers who offer Premium and Expedited delivery have advantage over merchants without these options.

With ODR over 1% you are very likely to lose the BuyBox eligibility.

Also, if you are a newly registered seller, you will need to wait until at least 90 days past registration and process at least 1 order to be BuyBox eligible.

The Buy Box percentage displayed in the Seller Central depends on many factors including but not limited to the below.

  1. Total Number of Buy Box views
  2. Detail Page Views
  3. Views on the page where there is no active offer or Buy Box.

The Buy Box Win Percentage is calculated based on glance views on a detail page.

Formula: ∑ Glance views on detail pages where the seller won the Buy Box.

∑ Glance views on detail pages where the seller has an offer

∑Glance Views on the detail page where seller is winning Buy Box = Total Views on Pages with seller winning the Buy Box.

∑ Glance views on detail pages where the seller has an offer = Total Views on the pages where seller has offers on all his listings.

Common Issues affecting the percentage:

If there are no glance views on a detail page, that detail page will not be used in the calculation.

If there are no glance views on all the detail pages a seller has an offer for, their Buy Box Win Percentage will be considered undefined.

Glance views are taken across multiple days.
