Watch out as Amazon is now verifying US Seller addresses with a postcard!

Recently, Amazon started more carefully verifying the Business Addresses of Amazon Sellers, who have an address located in the USA on file. Affected sellers are asked to request a postcard being shipped to their address and then insert its verification code into a dedicated field in the Amazon Seller Central.

The wording is as follows:

We need some additional information before you can confirm this address. If you
wish to change your address first then click on “Add a new address”

This address will be visible to customers on the seller profile page. Amazon may verify this address by mailing a postcard containing a verification code. Once you confirm the address, most post-cards will arrive in 5-7 business days. Please ensure you have provided a valid phone number as it may be verified during postcard delivery.

This shouldn’t be a problem for those residing in the USA. However, many international sellers are trading using LLCs registered with a virtual address and the confirmation of a postcard code could be difficult.

Moreover, please note that the ”Business Address” in your Seller Account is often filled without your knowledge, from one of your return addresses or shipping addresses from the buyer side of your account.

Only those with an US address as the ”Business Address” are subjected to this verification. However, this can be the case even if your official registered Seller Account address is outside of the country.

Below you can view a screenshot of what the address verification looks like in Amazon Seller Central. As you can see, there is an option to select the address, where the postcard can be shipped, however existing addresses can be only verified through your Buyer Account.

And here is the view after already requesting the shipment of the postcard to your address (Amazon uses a courier – such as FedEx or UPS to verify the phone number as well):
