Creating a good product listing that attracts customers can be a genuine struggle. The ideal way how to do it is to ”paint a picture” in your customer’s mind with your product being a part of their life.
But how?
-Use more action verbs
-Avoid overuse of “perfect for”, “great for”, etc
-Sew features of your product within an emotional daydream. Show a life scene playing out
Let’s look at a bad example:
Stimulate Imagination – Bath time is more fun and educational with these animal bath bombs for kids. There is a surprise toy inside these bath bombs for boys and girls. Great for animal lovers of all ages.
What’s wrong?
While the header is strong, this bullet point just “tells” the shopper everything
-They won’t relate the product back to themselves – there’s no emotion-driving daydream
-No action verbs
-Uses “great for” when we could easily write something else
Let’s fix it:
Stimulate Imagination – Make bath time fun and educational with these animal bath bombs for kids. Your child’s face will light up with excitement when they find the surprise toy inside. Give these bath bombs for boys and girls to animal lovers of all ages.
This copy is active and emotional:
-It utilizes verbs (“make” & “give”) so the customer envisions themselves taking action
-It causes a daydream where their child gets super excited and happy. What could be more emotional for a parent?
-Avoids “great for” by using the soft call to action of “give”. And still illustrates that kids of all ages enjoy these toys
Painting a picture will always get you better results than simply “telling”.
