Damaged Amazon FBA warehouse AFW1 will resume operations in May

If you are one of the impacted Amazon Sellers whose inventory was caught in the December 13, 2022 incident, when severe weather caused structural damage to AFW1 and the facility was forced to close, you should know that the facility will reopen as early as 7.May 2023.

If your Inventory Performance Index (IPI) has been impacted by the closure of AFW1, Amazon is claiming to have accounted for that impact in your current capacity limits. They state that your IPI could be affected for up to 13 weeks after AFW1 reopens. However, they will continue to monitor your IPI  during that time and ensure that any impact to your IPI does not negatively influence your capacity limits.

The important point is that you may be able to ask for a reimbursement if Amazon failed to refund your storage fees by now.

According to Amazon, you may see monthly storage fees and/or aged inventory surcharges associated with affected inventory during the closure period. If these monthly fees were incorrectly applied to your account, they will issue you a refund within one month of the charge date. After AFW1 reopens on May 7, Amazon will no longer refund monthly storage fees as items will be fulfillable for customer orders. However, Amazon will continue to refund aged inventory surcharge through July 2023 as a grace period.

Important update regarding your inventory at AFW1

Hello,

Our records indicate that you may have inventory at our AFW1 fulfillment center. On December 13, 2022, severe weather caused structural damage to AFW1 and the facility was forced to close. AFW1 will resume operations on May 7.

If your Inventory Performance Index (IPI) has been impacted by the closure of AFW1, we have accounted for that impact in your current capacity limits. Your IPI could be affected for up to 13 weeks after AFW1 reopens. We will continue to monitor your IPI  during that time and ensure that any impact to your IPI does not negatively influence your capacity limits.

While your inventory at AFW1 is unavailable for sale, some of your FBA ASINs may not have enough inventory to keep up with your customer orders. To ensure that you have sufficient stock to meet customer demand, you may need to send additional inventory or expedite your open shipments.

You may see monthly storage fees and/or aged inventory surcharges associated with affected inventory during the closure period. If these monthly fees were incorrectly applied to your account, we will issue you a refund within one month of the charge date. After AFW1 reopens on May 7, we will not refund monthly storage fees as items will be fulfillable for customer orders. We will continue to refund aged inventory surcharge through July 2023 as a grace period.
