Amazon starts removing electronic equipment listings in Germany when no WEEE number is provided

As an Amazon seller, it’s crucial to stay informed about any policy changes or updates that could affect your business. Recently, Amazon started enforcing compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements for waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Germany. Sellers who have not submitted their WEEE-Reg.-Nr(s) or have provided unvalidated numbers have received an e-mail notice informing them of the deactivation of their electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) listings on Amazon.de.

Extended Producer Responsibility is a policy approach that holds manufacturers responsible for the management and disposal of their products at the end of their lifecycle. In Germany, EPR legislation specifically focuses on waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) to minimize the environmental impact of these products. As an Amazon seller, you are required to comply with these regulations to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of your products.

If you have received the e-mail notice mentioned above, it means that Amazon has been unable to verify your compliance with EPR requirements in Germany. Consequently, your electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) listings on Amazon.de have been temporarily deactivated. It’s important to note that this action does not affect your account health, but it does limit your ability to sell those specific products on Amazon.de.

To regain the ability to sell your EEE products on Amazon.de, you must address the compliance issue related to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements in Germany.

More information can be found in the below notice from Amazon regarding the matter:

Action required: Your electrical and electronic equipment listings on Amazon.de have been deactivated

Hello,

We are unable to verify your compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements for waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Germany because you have either not submitted your WEEE-Reg.-Nr(s)., or we have not been able to validate the number(s) you provided. You can find a detailed reason on the Compliance Information for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal.

As a result, your electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) listings on Amazon.dehave been deactivated. You can find a list of the deactivated listings at the bottom of this message. This action does not impact your account health.

Why did this happen?

All producers of EEE in Germany must register with Stiftung ear (https://www.ear-system.de/ear-portal/#no-back) to obtain a WEEE-Reg.-Nr for each of their brand and type of equipment combinations. If you are not a producer, you can provide Amazon with the WEEE-Reg.-Nr.(s) of your upstream supplier.

If you have already submitted your WEEE-Reg.-Nr.(s) to Amazon and your submission was marked by Amazon as invalid, go to the “EPR Requirements: WEEE in Germany” to see a list of possible reasons and corrective actions: https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/external/GY97WLQDLFH2SNBY?ref=EPR_WEEE_HP
Amazon is legally obligated to check if you comply with the EPR requirements for WEEE in Germany and, if you do not, deactivate your non-compliant listings.

How can I reactivate my listings?

To reactivate your listing(s), go to the Compliance Information for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal (https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/spx/myc/epr-compliance?ref=EPR_WEEE_PORTAL), and submit your WEEE-Reg.-Nr. for each EEE brand and type of equipment combination you sell on Amazon.de. Only do this once your WEEE-Reg.-Nr.(s) have been added to the Stiftung ear register (https://www.ear-system.de/ear-portal/#no-back), which can take up to 72 hours. After you have submitted your WEEE-Reg.-Nr(s)., we will validate them with Stiftung ear and send you an email with the result within five business days.

You can find detailed instructions in the Compliance Portal FAQ on the “EPR Requirements: WEEE in Germany” help page in Seller Central.

After you have submitted a valid WEEE-Reg.-Nr. number, your impacted listings may be eligible for reactivation. You will need to reactivate impacted listings shown as “Inactive” in Seller Central. For instructions on how to relist these inactive listings, go to “Reinstating inactive listings: individual and bulk completion”: https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/GD7M6ASL5L6S85EZ?ref=EPR_reinstatement_HP

What if I do not want to continue selling EEE on Amazon.de?

If you don’t want to continue selling EEE on Amazon.de, you can remove your EEE listings via the Manage Inventory dashboard: https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/hz/inventory
See the Manage Inventory help page for a step-by-step guide: https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/201186860.
Have your listings have been deactivated in error?
If you believe you have submitted valid WEEE-Reg.-Nr.(s) on the Compliance Portal, or that you should not be considered a producer of EEE, send an explanation to Selling Partner Support (https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/help/center).
Your explanation must include:

— Details and evidence demonstrating that the WEEE-Reg.-Nr.(s) provided are valid, including an ASIN list, Stiftung ear registration document and product documentation showing the type of equipment, or
— Details and evidence demonstrating why you should not be considered a producer of EEE.

What happens if I don’t send an explanation and do not reactivate my listings?

If you don’t provide the requested compliance information or inform us there has been an error, your listings will remain inactive.

We’re here to help.
