Amazon starts aggressively enforcing valid GTIN numbers

Starting this month, Amazon began repeatedly e-mailing sellers with threats to remove listings which don’t contain valid GTIN numbers, including EAN or UPC barcodes.

These communications were sent to all sellers, regardless of their (non)compliance and no specific ASINs were mentioned as being under the threat of removal.

In the Seller Central, Products listed on the “At Risk listings” tab in the “Fix Your Products” view will be removed if the requested information is not provided by the due date. Products listed on the “Inactive listings” tab will remain inactive unless the requested information is provided.

Hello,

We would like to inform you that the listing information described below can affect your ability to sell certain products.

Why am I receiving this message?
Amazon requires valid Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) on all product listings. Catalog quality teams have detected that some of your products are using invalid GTINs, and these are listed on the “Fix Your Products” (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/fixyourproducts) page. GTINs are considered invalid if they are not GS1 vended or not recognized by the brand owner. You have to take action to address these listings immediately or they will be removed. How do I fix my listings?
To fix the ASINs, go to “Contact us” (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/cu/contact-us) to submit a letter of authorization or a licensing agreement that meets the following criteria: 
• Includes name and address of the brand’s Rights Owner.
• Content has to be legible.
• Includes the manufacturer name and contact information.
• Includes seller’s legal business name or seller name that corresponds to your Account Information page in Seller Central.
• Includes seller’s physical address.
• Must be in English.
• Includes a GS1 certificate. We recommend obtaining your GTINs directly from GS1 (and not from other third parties selling GTIN licenses) to ensure the appropriate information is reflected in the GS1 database. For more information on licensing EANs/UPCs from GS1, refer to the GS1 website.

What happens if I do not respond? 
Products listed on the “At Risk listings” tab in the “Fix Your Products” view will be removed if the requested information is not provided by the due date. Products listed on the “Inactive listings” tab will remain inactive unless the requested information is provided.
