Amazon now requires sellers to configure their automated-removal settings for unfulfillable inventory

Recently, Amazon started offering sellers new options how to handle unfulfillable Fulfilled by Amazon inventory returned back to the company’s warehouses or otherwise unwanted stock.

It is now also possible to set automated removal of inventory to “FBA liquidations” or “Refurbishment”.

While FBA liquidations will only enable you to retrieve a very small amount of the product price, between 10 to 15% and what will most likely happen is that Amazon will sell your product under the same listing for literally the same price as you, at least you won’t need to have the product disposed of or sent to prep-centre, if you are an international seller without a local return address.

Starting 28.September 2021, configuring automated-removal settings for unfulfillable inventory is now mandatory.

Amazon sellers are required to confirm or update automated-removal settings for unfulfillable inventory before you can create a removal order.

Configure your automated-removal settings for unfulfillable inventory

Hello,

As of September 28, 2021, you’re required to confirm or update automated-removal settings for unfulfillable inventory before you can create a removal order.
When creating your next removal order, you’ll be prompted to do the following: Confirm or update your settings.
Click Update
This change is designed to help you reduce storage costs, improve your Inventory Performance Index score, and increase your storage limits. We’ve also added these value-recovery services to your settings as alternatives to having inventory disposed of or returned to you:
FBA refurbishment services. Eligible customer-returned units that are in new and sellable condition but require low-touch refurbishing will be returned to sellable status at no cost to you. For more information, go to FBA repackaging and refurbishment services

FBA Liquidations. Eligible products will be made available for wholesale liquidation through a trusted provider, typically for between 5% and 10% of the product’s average selling price. For more information, go to FBA Liquidations.
To enroll in these services, go to Automated unfulfillable settings and select RefurbishmentLiquidations, or both. Unfulfillable units that are not eligible will be automatically removed based on your choice of either Return or Dispose
To reduce product waste, we recommend that you choose seller returns over disposal and keep donations enabled.
