Why are fraudsters buying “Aged” Amazon Seller Accounts

If you are a member of one of the thousands of social media groups targeted at Amazon Sellers, you must have come across posts where strangers under fake profiles are offering to buy “Aged” Amazon Seller Accounts.

By “Aged”, they are referring to accounts registered before August 2016. This was the date when Amazon introduced the new Payments After Delivery Disbursement Schedule, which effectively put an end to instant transfers of funds for fulfilled orders. From then on, international sellers often had to wait months before getting paid.

When buying old Amazon Seller Accounts, which are still running on the original disbursement schedule, fraudulent sellers are trying to make quick money by listing a high volume of expensive items and then accepting orders, only to run away after getting paid.

Some of them are using stalling tactics, which means that they set long Handling and Shipping estimates and offer sending replacements in a response to non-receipt claims, trying to keep their accounts active for as long as possible.

Many unsuccessful Amazon Sellers, who own old Seller Accounts which they no longer use will get tricked by the offer of a few thousands of dollars and give away their store to these individuals.

You should know that once your Seller Account, which you sold gets suspended over “Hit-and-Run Good-Seller-Gone-Bad” allegation, your chances of ever being able to sell on the platform are zero.

Additionally, Amazon may still come after you and charge your old card on file for any financial losses, rather than pursuing the bad actor.

A Seller Account registered before August 2016 is priceless, so you should never sell it, but rather keep it for a later use.
