Amazon is now showing the reason for Restricted Products Policy Violations

As an Amazon seller, one of the key challenges you may face is navigating the Restricted Products Policy. Amazon has very broad guidelines in place to ensure the safety and satisfaction of its customers. Even if you don’t violate these policies, having specific keywords detected by bots within your listings can result in serious consequences, including account suspension or closure.

As you know, in the past it used to be nearly impossible for sellers to determine the reason why their listings were removed under the Restricted Products Policy. No reason or instructions how to have them lifted were being provided.

However, recently Amazon started disclosing the exact reason for each listing’s removal along with clarificarion how to have them restored in the detail of each defect:

As you can see, here the wording states:

This product has been identified as a supplement, consumable product, cosmetic, or topical product that makes prohibited disease claims. Products that make disease claims are prohibited from sale and listing on Amazon. For more information, please see: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/help.html?itemID=201829010&language=en_US&ref=su_201829010_cont_200164330 For reinstatement, please remove the prohibited disease claim from the detail page and appeal the restriction. Please note that if the disease claim is on the product labeling, there may not be a path to reinstatement. For additional guidance, please see: https://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/DietarySupplements/ucm103340.htm, https://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/Labeling/Claims/default.htm.

Interestingly, the message also clarifies, that there may not be a path for reinstatement, which is entirely new. Previously, sellers were always encouraged to address any issues by appealing, without being disclosed information about their prospects of success.

Additionally, here are my tips how to address Restricted Products Policy violations on Amazon effectively:

  1. Before you begin selling on Amazon, it’s crucial to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the Restricted Products Policy. This policy outlines the types of products that are prohibited or require specific approvals for sale. Visit Amazon’s Seller Central and carefully read through the policy to avoid any inadvertent violations.
  2. Perform routine checks on your inventory to ensure compliance with Amazon’s Restricted Products Policy. Products may become restricted or prohibited over time due to changes in regulations or safety concerns. Stay updated on policy changes and review your inventory to identify any potential violations promptly.
  3. If you discover that you have violated the Restricted Products Policy, take immediate action to address the issue. Ignoring violations can lead to severe consequences for your Amazon account. Remove any restricted products from your inventory and discontinue their sale immediately.
  4. Review the notification or email you received from Amazon regarding the policy violation. Understand the specific reason behind the violation to address it effectively. Amazon usually provides clear instructions and guidelines on how to resolve the issue. Thoroughly analyze the violation to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
  5. Developing a Plan of Action is crucial for reinstating your selling privileges on Amazon. Your POA should include a clear description of the violation, the steps you have taken to resolve it, and preventive measures to ensure it does not happen again. Be concise, specific, and outline a detailed plan that demonstrates your commitment to compliance.
  6. Once you have prepared your POA, reach out to Amazon Seller Support through the “Contact Us” page on Seller Central. Select the appropriate category for your issue and provide a detailed explanation of the violation, along with your POA. Be patient and persistent, as it may take multiple attempts or follow-ups to get a response.
  7. Regularly monitor your Account Health Dashboard to track the status of your policy violation and the progress of your POA. This dashboard provides valuable insights into your account’s health, including any outstanding issues that need to be addressed. Keep a close eye on this information to stay proactive in resolving policy violations.
  8. While resolving a policy violation is essential, preventing future violations is equally important. Review your internal processes, sourcing methods, and inventory management systems to ensure compliance with Amazon’s policies. Stay up to date with policy changes and educate yourself and your team to minimize the risk of violations.

Addressing Restricted Products Policy violations on Amazon can be challenging, but by following the steps outlined in this guide, you can navigate the process effectively. Remember to stay vigilant, review your inventory regularly, and take prompt action if you encounter any violations. By understanding and adhering to Amazon’s policies, you can maintain a healthy selling account and ensure a positive experience for both you and your customers.
